Search SCI Dallas Releases

To find someone released from State Correctional Institution Dallas, use Pennsylvania's statewide corrections and parole records, not a Luzerne County jail roster. SCI Dallas is an active state prison for men. A person leaving it may enter state parole, complete the maximum sentence, or move to another correctional setting. Each path produces a different record. The public supervised-person search can show a past release date, while the final movement record or Board Action supplies stronger detail. A county jail lookup cannot confirm an SCI Dallas release because the two agencies maintain separate custody systems.

SCI Dallas Release Paths

SCI Dallas belongs to the Pennsylvania Department of Corrections. A departure from the institution may be parole to community supervision, discharge at the lawful maximum, or a transfer within the DOC system. Parole is conditional service of the balance of a state sentence in the community. It is not the same as full sentence discharge. Likewise, transport from SCI Dallas to another prison changes location without ending state custody.

The statewide DOC locator is the correct public starting point. Its inmate mode covers current state custody. Its Department Supervised Individual mode can identify people under state field supervision and display a retrospective Release Date. The release date shown there reflects a past prison release. It should not be treated as the date state supervision ended.

Confirm an SCI Dallas Release

The DOC public locator separates current inmates from supervised people. Search the mode that matches the question. A current-inmate result does not prove a future release date, and the locator does not publish a prospective minimum, maximum, projected, or tentative field. For someone believed to be paroled, the supervised-person mode is often the more useful second search.

  1. Open the PA DOC Inmate and Supervised Individual Locator.
  2. Search by inmate or parole number when known, or use the name and identity fields.
  3. Compare the DOC number, date of birth, current mode, and location or supervising district.
  4. Read a supervised-person Release Date as the prior prison release date, not the end of supervision.
  5. Request the final movement or discharge record when documentary proof is needed.

PA SAVIN can add a custody-event notice, but Pennsylvania warns against relying on it alone. The Luzerne County released inmate search explains when the county, state, federal, and notification channels apply. For SCI Dallas, PA DOC remains the controlling custodian.

Date limit: The public locator does not show a projected SCI Dallas release field. Minimum eligibility, a Board grant, and physical release are different events.

SCI Dallas Records Contact

The official SCI Dallas page identifies the institution and its main contact. Facility staff can route operational questions, but official release documentation is a Pennsylvania DOC records matter. A narrowly framed request should identify the person by DOC number and give the relevant time range.

For routine inmate-record guidance, the research identifies DOC Central Records at RA-centechrecords@pa.gov. Formal Pennsylvania DOC Right-to-Know requests go to the Office of Chief Counsel, 1920 Technology Parkway, Mechanicsburg, PA 17050, at 717-728-7763 or RA-docrighttoknow@pa.gov. Ask for an existing final release, discharge, or movement record. Do not ask DOC to calculate a date or create a report it does not maintain.

SCI Dallas State Custody

PA DOC describes SCI Dallas as an active medium-security institution for men. The official history says it opened in January 1960. From 1968, it housed sentenced adult men serving terms of two years or more. These facts distinguish it from nearby LCCF, which is a county jail with pretrial and county-sentence functions.

1960SCI Dallas opened
MediumOfficial security level
18 monthsReentry office service horizon

The facility has a Reentry Service Office for people within eighteen months of minimum or release dates. That service helps prepare for a possible transition. Participation does not prove a fixed release date or a favorable parole result. Sentence computation, Board authority, placement requirements, and other lawful conditions can still affect when a person leaves prison.

SCI Dallas Release Dates

Pennsylvania uses indeterminate sentences. The judicial minimum is generally a parole-eligibility point, while the maximum is the outer date subject to lawful computation. Reaching the minimum does not force release. A Board grant can also precede the physical release while home-plan review, placement, or other prerequisites remain unfinished.

When DOC shows a Release Date in supervised-person mode, match the identity and note the supervising district. That pairing can show prison release followed by parole. If the question is whether all correctional authority ended, obtain a final discharge record rather than drawing that conclusion from the prison release field.

Minimum date
The usual threshold for parole consideration, not a promise.
Board Action
The recorded parole decision and conditions.
Release Date
The retrospective prison-release field shown for a supervised person.
Discharge
The end of the relevant correctional authority when the record supports it.

SCI Dallas and Retreat Records

Luzerne County has another state-prison name that appears in older files. SCI Retreat closed in 2020. PA DOC sources confirming that closure help prevent a historic Retreat entry from being mistaken for a current SCI Dallas location or a typographical error. Current state custody should be checked through the statewide locator, not inferred from the last institution named in an old docket.

The official SCI Dallas facility page confirms the active institution's identity. The separate PA DOC account of facility planning confirms Retreat as the historic closure. A person transferred from Retreat before closure could later appear at Dallas or elsewhere in DOC. The movement history, not local geography, links those custody episodes.

For an old Retreat release, use DOC Central Records and the court docket. For an SCI Dallas release, begin with the current locator and then request the final DOC record. Keeping the names and periods distinct prevents a false claim that the closed prison still releases people today.

SCI Dallas Versus LCCF

A Luzerne County arrest can lead to more than one custodian. LCCF may hold a person before trial or on a county sentence. After a state sentence, transfer to PA DOC may place the person at SCI Dallas or another state prison. The LCCF discharge then records transfer, not community release.

Use the LCCF master discharge record to establish when county custody ended. Use PA DOC to establish state placement and later release. A single court docket may explain the sentence, yet it cannot by itself establish either door time. Matching the county departure record to the state admission or movement record closes that gap.

Correct system: SCI Dallas release records come from PA DOC. Luzerne County jail records cover only the separate LCCF custody episode.

SCI Dallas Parole Evidence

A Pennsylvania Parole Board grant is legal authority for conditional release when required steps are complete. It is not proof that a person left SCI Dallas on the decision date. Home-plan approval, reentry placement, and other prerequisites may still stand between the grant and the physical release. The supervised-person locator's Release Date and the final DOC movement entry are the better evidence that the prison release occurred.

No official public person-by-person parole hearing calendar or decisions search was found. The Board's public meetings page concerns Board meetings, not individual inmate interviews. Monthly statistics report grants and refusals in aggregate and cannot confirm a named SCI Dallas case. Request the final Board Action by name, inmate or parole number, and approximate decision date when the decision itself is needed.

Under the cited Pennsylvania parole law, final decisions are recorded, filed, provided to the incarcerated person, and available to the public at reasonable times. Deliberative material can be treated differently from the final action. A focused request for the recorded Board Action is more precise than asking for all parole materials. Pair the action with the DOC Release Date to distinguish authority from execution.

PA SAVIN can add prompt notice of a state custody change. Read whether the event is release, transfer, or another movement. Save the event time and named agency, then compare it with DOC. Pennsylvania expressly warns that SAVIN should not be the sole safety measure or proof. For SCI Dallas, a useful evidence chain is Board Action, DOC actual Release Date, supervising district, and final movement record.
